Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban announced on Wednesday, August 6, his plans to challenge the Romanian authorities’ decision to ban him from entering the Schengen area for the next five years. In his opinion, the move is politically motivated and aimed at discrediting him during the election period, newtv.md reports. “My lawyers in Romania will issue an official statement requesting clarifications on the entry ban imposed by the Romanian authorities. I repeat: in my view, this move is the result of an agreement between Maia Sandu and the Romanian President, aimed at discrediting me during the election campaign.” The capital’s mayor emphasized that he had already sent official letters to the Romanian authorities responsible for the ban but hadn’t yet received a clear response. He called for the suspension of what he described as a “hallucinatory measure,” arguing it violates fundamental principles of the European Union. “We will forward these appeals to European institutions. I am confident that my lawyers in Romania and my team will take all necessary steps to resolve this situation,” Ceban said.
