Former Prime Minister Ion Sturza stated that if Maia Sandu refuses to approve a candidate from pro-Russian parties for the post of prime minister, she will not be removed from office, as was the case with Igor Dodon, because “the Constitutional Court is ours.” On a broadcast, Sturza said that Maia Sandu would not accept the candidacy for prime minister proposed by pro-Russian parties, even if such a majority is elected through democratic means in the parliamentary elections this autumn, unimedia.info reports. “We are telling people plainly: Maia Sandu, as president and as a person of vision and character, will never accept in Chisinau a government that is not only pro-Russian, but even one with the slightest sympathy for Russia. She will not agree to an alliance, will not accept a prime minister, and even if it is the result of a democratic vote, we will face a serious conflict,” Ion Sturza said on the Adevăruri program with Olga Bejan. “This would mean that, for the first time, a candidate for the post of prime minister would be put forward, and if she rejects him, what happens next?” the journalist asked Sturza. “Here we move to a historical analogy, when Dodon refused to sign something and was suspended for one day, but the Constitutional Court is ours,” the former prime minister replied. “What do you mean by ‘ours’? The Constitutional Court is free and independent, isn’t it?” the journalist clarified. “It will be a very difficult situation,” he added.
