Nicusor Dan on Ceban: During My Term as Mayor, I Was Advised to Reject Him

The President of Romania explained the reasons behind the decision to ban Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban from entering Romania and the Schengen area. According to him, this is a matter of national security, and the report on this case contains “sufficient” facts. “This is a security matter, and I can say no more. Of course, I was informed about this case before the decision was made. This is a matter of security for two other citizens of the Republic of Moldova,” said President Nicusor Dan on the În Profunzime programme on ProTV Chișinău, according to ipn.md. The leader from Cotroceni explained that during his tenure as mayor of Bucharest, he was warned to avoid any official meetings with Ion Ceban. “I was mayor from 2020 to 2025, and during that time Mr. Ceban tried to meet with us two or three times when he came to Romania. As mayor, I was in official contact with government agencies and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I was advised not to receive him, and I did not receive him,” said the Romanian president.
