The European Union will launch the pre-accession procedure for the Republic of Moldova after the parliamentary elections this autumn.
This was announced by the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, at a press conference in Bucharest alongside the President of Romania, Nicusor Dan, according to Radio Moldova.
The European official highlighted the reforms carried out by the government in Chisinau on its path toward European integration and emphasized that the EU’s support for candidate countries remains firm.
“The latest European Council unanimously supported the proposal to officially launch the accession procedure for Moldova. I am confident that after the elections on September 28, we will have all the necessary conditions to start the pre-accession procedures. This is a very important step… We have ambitious policies in the fields of security and competitiveness, and we need an adequate budget and opportunities for development,” said Antonio Costa.
