Home / Politics / Dodon Suggested that Moldova Could Purchase Gas from Azerbaijan or Qatar
Moldova needs access to cheap resources to restart its economy, said Igor Dodon, former president of Moldova and leader of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova, in a special interview with RTVI.
The politician told RTVI that in July this year he held talks with the Russian authorities regarding gas supplies. According to him, Moscow was initially prepared to supply Chisinau with about two billion cubic meters of gas directly through the TurkStream if the republic had “a government willing to discuss this issue with Russia”.
“Serbia currently buys gas at $250 per thousand cubic meters through the South Stream and TurkStream pipelines. For us, it would be around $200. We currently buy gas through Europe, through an intermediary. I am sure that this is also Russian gas. We pay $500 for gas, which is twice as much. According to our model, cheap energy resources could help restart the economy,” Dodon stressed.
According to the politician, Moldova needs access to cheap energy resources “to restart the main engines of the economy and return to traditional markets” where Chisinau could export its goods. He added that Moldova could obtain resources not only from Russia, but also from Azerbaijan and Qatar.
