By calling Russia an enemy, Moldova risks getting a response, said Andrei Kartapolov, chairman of the State Duma’s Defense Committee. “Since they consider us enemies, we know how to deal with our enemies,” Kartapolov said, according to gazeta.ru. This was his comment on Moldova’s new military strategy for the period from 2025 to 2035, which identifies Russia as the main threat to the country’s security. The Moldovan authorities see Russia’s expanding control over territories as a direct threat to the republic’s security and statehood, fearing the creation of a “land corridor” to their borders. Another threat mentioned in the document is the presence of Russian military forces in Transnistria. Among other things, Moldova’s new military strategy aims to integrate into the European Union’s security system.
