Following the visit of SIS chief Alexandru Musteață to Comrat on October 23, the speaker of the Gagauz People’s Assembly (GPA), Dmitrii Constantinov, spoke about the need for dialogue with Chișinău. Speaking on TV8 program “New Week with Anatolie Golea”, he confirmed that the People’s Assembly seeks to restore communication with the central authorities, but offered contradictory explanations for the breakdown in dialogue. Host Anatolie Golea asked if the visit by the special services chief had influenced Comrat’s stance on dialogue with Chisinau. The GPA speaker indirectly confirmed that the meeting had a role in shaping the decision. “I told the SIS that it was nice to finally meet in person instead of seeing each other only on television. Of course, it would have been better if they had informed us in advance. But anyway, we managed to have a normal constructive discussion. I stand for dialogue. As they say, it’s better to engage in dialogue than not to. We still need to find common ground. After all, we live in the same country, and we consider ourselves Moldovans, citizens of Moldova,” Constantinov said.
