The Foreign Policy Committee of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova has decided to abolish parliamentary friendship groups with the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus for the duration of Russia’s ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine.
This was announced by Deputy Speaker of Parliament Doina Gherman, who stressed that the decision reflects the legislative body’s clear commitment to defending the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity, moldpres.md reports.
“We are firmly convinced of the need to maintain friendship groups with states that respect sovereignty, independence, and human dignity,” Gherman said.
The Deputy Speaker of Parliament emphasized that the Republic of Moldova is a peace-minded country, with a wide network of international partners.
At present, the Moldovan Parliament has established friendship groups with 54 parliaments, aimed at fostering dialogue, cooperation, and mutual trust between nations.
