Home / Politics / Carp: PAS Authorities Will No Longer Tolerate Election Fraud in Gagauzia
Electoral processes in the autonomous region will be directly supervised by the Central Electoral Commission in Chisinau.
This was stated by Lilian Carp, chair of the parliamentary commission on national security, on public radio, according to pulsmedia.md.
According to the MP, local authorities in Gagauzia have in the past acted not in accordance with the law, but in the interests of certain groups.
“They had their own electoral structure at the local level, and it did not operate according to the law, but served the interests of certain groups. Therefore, it was decided that everything would be controlled from Chisinau, including the electoral process. This is being done to prevent vote buying and election fraud. If there are reports of violations or vote buying and there is evidence, then the CEC in Chisinau will take the necessary decisions,” the MP said.
Carp added that elections to the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia could take place in March. He stressed that the residents of the autonomous region should preserve their cultural identity and decide their own future.
“When we entered politics, we decided that the Gagauz people should determine their own destiny at the local level, competing with each other for districts and making decisions independently.”
