PAS deputy Alexandru Trubca said the economic factor is crucial to the process of reintegrating Transnistria, noting that political decisions will follow only after the financial costs are measured and external support is found. “When discussing the reintegration of Transnistria, the first thing that comes to mind is the economic plan. Once underway, the process will be extremely costly. Alongside the political, administrative, and technical issues, the question of money will be acute during reunification, as pensions and other payments will have to be paid. The economic shock could be substantial given a huge income gap between the right and left banks. This economic aspect of reintegration was discussed by Mr. Munteanu with the US and the European Union,” PAS deputy Alexandru Trubca said, tv8.md reports. He noted that the authorities will be working on two fronts – pursuing Moldova’s European integration, an external political process, and reintegrating the left bank, an internal process. The parliamentarian admitted that if the right bank joins the EU before the left bank, cargo controls could be tightened at the administrative border of the region, but he assured that there are chances to make progress in reintegration in the coming years and avoid such a scenario.
