The national power system is operating within normal parameters: operational stability, continuity of power supply and the energy balance necessary to fully cover domestic consumption are being maintained. The state-owned enterprise Moldelectrica has issued clarifications following interpretations of the data on flows displayed on its official website. According to Moldelectrica, the indicators visible online represent instantaneous technical flows determined by the physical characteristics of the network and do not reflect commercial transactions between the energy systems of Romania, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, reports bani.md. “Moldova’s electricity supply is carried out in accordance with suppliers’ forecasts and the system operator’s operational planning, and the volume required to cover domestic consumption is fully provided. Moldelectrica dispatchers constantly monitor parameters and take operational corrective measures to maintain frequency and voltage stability in the transmission network,” Moldelectrica notes. The agency also urges consumers to use electricity responsibly, especially during peak hours, in order to reduce the load on the grid and support the efficient operation of the national energy infrastructure. Earlier, economist Sergiu Tofilat warned that Moldova faces an acute energy shortage following Russia’s massive attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. According to him, the situation is putting serious pressure on the country’s import capabilities and could lead to power cuts or price increases if the population does not reduce consumption during the critical hours of 7:00-11:00 and 18:00-23:00 – during these periods, prices in Romania are two to three times higher than the average level set in the local tariff. On certain days, the cost of energy reaches €300-600/MWh.
