Generating electricity for the right bank of the Dniester River at the MoldGRES will be cheaper than purchasing it on the European market, but “citizens remain hostages to political games”, according to former Deputy Prime Minister Alexandru Muravschi.
“Generating electricity for the right bank of the Dniester at the MoldGRES located in the Transnistrian region will be cheaper than purchasing it on the European market, but citizens remain hostages to a political gamble in which everything is being done to sever all ties with the Russian Federation as much as possible and not to purchase electricity from the MGRES, which belongs to the Russian company Inter RAO,” Muravschi said on the talk show “On the Edge” (Na Grani), according to noi.md.
He noted that, on the one hand, there would no longer be a situation where the Moldovan GRES operated on virtually free Russian gas, which allowed it to supply electricity to the right bank of the Dniester at prices quite acceptable to Chisinau.
“But this situation will no longer exist. That is, the war in Ukraine will end, relations will change, but there will no longer be free gas in Transnistria, as there was before,” said Alexandru Muravschi.
In his opinion, on the other hand, even in this situation, generating, if not all, then a significant part of the electricity for the right bank of the Dniester at the Moldovan GRES will be cheaper than purchasing electricity on the European market with its price fluctuations. The former Deputy Prime Minister and ex-Minister of Economy of Moldova believes that it will be profitable for Chisinau to purchase electricity from the MoldGRES, even if it is produced using raw materials supplied to it on a tolling basis, i.e. natural gas purchased and supplied by MGRES for electricity generation and delivery to the right bank of the Dniester.
