Home / Politics / Spatari: Moldova Still Far from Meeting EU Requirements
Our country’s progress depends on internal preparations and the implementation of measures set out in the National Accession Program. This was stated by Marcel Spatari, Chairman of the European Integration Commission.
At the same time, the MP explained that the decision of member states to include a country in the EU is not only political but also technical in nature, and the path to accession for Moldova remains the same, without exceptions or a “fast track”, reports ipn.md.
When asked whether the obstacles associated with Ukraine’s accession, including Hungary’s position, could indirectly affect the European path of the Republic of Moldova, Marcel Spatari clarified that Budapest’s position towards Kyiv primarily affects the opening of political negotiations with Ukraine. “In this context, the Republic of Moldova supports the continuation of negotiations and Ukraine’s progress. We recognize that this window of opportunity is due to Russian aggression against Ukraine and the current geopolitical context,” the official added.
At the same time, he stressed the importance of maintaining the pace of work by the institutions involved in the process of harmonizing legislation with the EU, as well as the need for political signals of support from Member States.
“From my point of view, the existence of these intermediate goals, these clear objectives – the European Commission’s guidelines on behalf of the 27 Member States on three chapters – allows us to move forward in the negotiation process. When negotiations on all chapters are politically open, we will be ready to conclude them as soon as possible,” added Marcel Spatari.
