Home / Society / Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram Plan to Regulate According to the EU Model in Moldova
This was stated by Audiovisual Coordinating Council’s Chair Liliana Vitu, noting that the authorities are preparing to introduce a Digital Services Act that will establish clear rules for companies such as Meta, TikTok, and Google, similar to those in the European Union.
The new law is expected to come into force on October 3, but before that, the authorities are awaiting the European Commission’s conclusion for the full application of its provisions, according to nordnews.md.
“Our deadline is October. The European Commission will also evaluate the proposals put forward by the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization,” explained Liliana Vitu.
The head of the Audiovisual Coordinating Council clarified that the institution she heads will not necessarily be responsible for monitoring digital platforms, as these powers may be transferred to the National Agency for Regulation in the Field of Communications.
The issue of regulation has been raised against the backdrop of increased online disinformation ahead of the September 2025 parliamentary elections, when networks such as Telegram and TikTok were actively used to manipulate public opinion.
During the 2025 elections, TikTok reported removing more than 134,000 fake accounts and blocking nearly 270,000 spam accounts in an effort to protect the integrity of the platform.
