“Moldova could become a regional hub for Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction, and the government in Chisinau has already appointed a special representative to coordinate this process,” said Paun Rohovei, Ukraine’s ambassador to Moldova. According to the diplomat, the position of Special Representative for Ukraine’s Reconstruction was entrusted to Deputy Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu, who is highly regarded for his expertise in the economic field. Rohovei welcomed Chisinau’s decision, noting that it reflects the interest of both countries in deepening cooperation, according to radiomoldova.md The key element of future cooperation will be road and railway infrastructure projects that could turn the Republic of Moldova into an important logistics hub for Ukraine’s recovery, including the construction of a bridge over the Dniester River between Yampil and Cosauti and the opening of new border crossing points on the northern border. The new corridor will directly connect the north of the Republic of Moldova with the Vinnytsia oblast, reducing transportation costs and simplifying the export of Ukrainian products to the European Union. Currently, goods from the northern regions of Ukraine are forced to bypass through Odesa in order to reach Moldova or transit through it. In the meantime, the authorities are considering the possibility of installing a temporary bridge to attract the necessary investments, given the importance of alternative corridors through the Republic of Moldova and Romania for Ukrainian exports. In the energy sector, the war has forced Ukraine to reconsider its energy transportation and distribution system, emphasizing decentralization and regionalization. According to the ambassador, a more flexible system will help mitigate the impact of attacks on energy infrastructure. The connection of the Ukrainian power system to the European ENTSO-E network has helped to avoid an energy collapse following the Russian shelling. In this context, the Republic of Moldova plays an important role in maintaining regional stability, including through existing interconnections.
