Igor Grosu, the Chairman of the Parliament, stated that the process of reintegration of the Transnistrian region would require enormous financial investments that the state budget would not be able to cover on its own. According to the speaker, the Left Bank may face an accelerated unification scenario due to the impending economic collapse. Grosu does not rule out a situation where the region will soon run out of funds to pay basic pensions, social benefits, and salaries, forcing the administration to seek assistance from Chisinau, according to rupor.md. The head of the legislative body emphasized that for many years, Transnistrian enterprises operated under the conditions of artificial dumping due to free gas. However, instead of investing in the modernization of production, the revenues were spent on other purposes. Now that energy resources must be paid for, the old economic model has become unsustainable. “The cost or expenses of reintegration are significant, but the Republic of Moldova cannot cover all these expenses from its own budget, and this would be unfair to the citizens of the right bank,” Igor Grosu said, adding that the authorities are already conveying this message to international partners. Commenting on the Left Bank’s interest in energy efficiency programs, the Chairman of Parliament noted that access to them is possible, but only if there is equal participation in filling the budget. “This implies, at the very least, that those economic agents who import gasoline or other necessary materials should pay into this fund, and then there will be proper and fair conditions for both parties,” the speaker concluded.
