Romania’s Supreme Council of National Defense has approved a US request to use air bases in the country for American operations against Iran. This was announced by Romanian President Nicusor Dan, according to eurointegration.com.ua, citing digi24.ro. The Romanian president did not provide details about the US request, but stressed that it was exclusively for a defense mission. “The third point was the deployment of American forces and equipment in Romania, including refueling aircraft and satellite communications equipment. I emphasize that this is defense equipment... I assure Romanians that they have no reason to worry. Our country is safe,” Dan said. According to Digi24, the United States has asked Romania for permission to send two refueling aircraft to the Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base in Constanta County and Campia Turzii. In addition, the US wants to deploy an additional 400-500 military personnel to provide security and technical maintenance for the aircraft. According to journalists, the decision to deploy American aircraft and personnel will be approved for a period of 90 days. The country’s Council of National Defense has the right to extend the mission if necessary.
