The transport of liquefied natural gas from the US via Romania is of vital importance to Ukraine and, at the same time, beneficial to Moldova. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made this statement in Bucharest at a joint press conference with Romanian President Nicusor Dan following their official meeting, according to logos-pres.md. “We discussed the possibility of transporting energy from the US to Ukraine via Romania. I would like to thank Romania for these transit and logistics opportunities – this is very important for us during the war and beneficial for Romania, Ukraine and Moldova,” said Zelensky. He also stated that Ukraine and Romania are constructing two new power transmission lines. Work on these projects has already begun. “This will support our regions, including the Chernivtsi oblast in Ukraine, and will enable Romania to strengthen its position in ensuring energy security in this part of Europe,” said the President of Ukraine. Zelensky considers it important to jointly implement oil extraction projects in the Black Sea. Romania has already taken significant steps in this direction, and the parties now have specific proposals on this matter, the Ukrainian president added. “We have discussed specific projects in the oil and gas sector at length. These are areas where Romania can support us in overcoming the current challenges in the Middle East. We have great potential for strategic cooperation in this field. We must implement energy projects as quickly as possible – this is important for us, for Romania and for the whole of Europe,” concluded Volodymyr Zelensky. In turn, Nicușor Dan noted that, thanks to the commitments made by Romania, the two countries would become strategic energy partners. The focus will be on interconnecting electricity grids, diversifying gas supply routes and making effective use of storage capacity, which will help to strengthen regional energy security. In Bucharest, the President of Ukraine also held a meeting with the Prime Minister of Romania, Ilie Bolojan. During the talks, the parties emphasized the importance of developing an energy network between Ukraine and Romania. Such a network will assist Ukraine during periods of shortage caused by Russian attacks on its energy infrastructure, and Romania during periods of surplus, when it will be able to export electricity.
