The Republic of Moldova must constantly invest in strengthening its air defense and modern technologies in the face of the existing security risks in the region.
This was announced today by Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatii at the Conference on Security in the Black Sea Region in Chisinau, according to moldpres.md.
He emphasized that Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine has profoundly altered the security architecture in Europe and exposed the vulnerabilities of the Black Sea region.
“Recent violations of the airspace by Russian drones demonstrate the need for ongoing investment in air defense and advanced technologies to protect citizens, critical infrastructure, and national sovereignty,” the minister said.
According to him, although the Republic of Moldova is a neutral state, neutrality does not provide absolute protection in the face of current threats. This is why strengthening defense capabilities and developing external partnerships are so important.
The Minister noted that the National Army is currently undergoing a large-scale modernization process with the support of international partners, and our country is strengthening its role as a security provider through participation in international missions under the auspices of the UN, the EU, and NATO.
The official drew attention to hybrid risks, including disinformation campaigns, propaganda, and the illegal presence of Russian troops in the Transnistrian region, which directly affect the security of the Republic of Moldova.
At the same time, the Minister of Defense noted that the adoption of legislation on airspace security has enabled the development of air defense capabilities, and cooperation with external partners has been expanded in the areas of technical expertise and the exchange of best practices.
Nosatii confirmed that the strategic goal of the Republic of Moldova remains joining the EU and integrating into the European security and defense architecture, which can only be achieved by strengthening national capacity and through international cooperation.
“We are stronger and more secure when we work together,” the Minister of Defense concluded.
The Republic of Moldova is currently hosting a Conference on Security in the Black Sea Region under the auspices of the International Crimea Platform. The event is jointly organized by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, with the support of the European Union.
The Black Sea Security Conference is being held for the third time, continuing the dialogue initiated in Bucharest in 2023 and Sofia in 2024 in the context of the Russian Federation’s aggression against Ukraine.
