Gheorghe Hajder, the Minister of the Environment, made a statement about the pollution of the Dniester River with petroleum products. The official recorded a video message from the territory of a neighboring country.
“This time, I am welcoming you not from the north of the Republic of Moldova, but from Ukraine, near the buffer reservoir near the Dniester Hydroelectric Power Plant,” the minister said, according to rupor.md.
“I came here personally to make sure that the source of pollution has been stopped, and I want to tell you from here that there are no additional oil stains at this time," said Gheorghe Hajder.
At the same time, the minister warned about the presence of residual traces of petroleum products in other parts of the river.
“Even under these conditions, we remain vigilant and will continue our work, because there are still some oil stains in other areas that I have personally seen, and they are likely to reach the Republic of Moldova,” the official emphasized.
The authorities intend to cooperate with Ukrainian representatives to minimize the consequences of the environmental incident.
“The important thing is that we have made sure that the source of the pollution has been stopped, and we will continue to work with our Ukrainian colleagues to reduce the impact of this pollution,” the Minister of the Environment said.
