Home / Politics / Popsoi: Moldova Will Demand Compensation from Russia for the Damaged Power Line
According to Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi, the priority now is to restore the damaged infrastructure. Once the work is completed, the authorities will assess the damage and initiate diplomatic procedures.
“These are serious losses for the country and state property. We must document this damage and demand compensation,” Popsoi said, according to nordnews.md.
He added that Moldovan specialists are working together with their Ukrainian counterparts, and it may take 5 to 7 days to restore the line.
The Deputy Prime Minister also recalled that this is the second incident in recent times. Earlier, an attack on a hydroelectric power plant in Novodnistrovsk led to serious consequences, including water supply disruptions and environmental damage.
The exact amount of the losses has not yet been determined, and it will be announced after all the technical work is completed. Chisinau will then send an official diplomatic note to Moscow.
The attack, which took place on the night of March 24, disabled a key power transmission line that provided up to 70% of the electricity consumption on the right bank of the Dniester River. Drone wreckage was found near the damaged facilities on the Ukrainian side.
Despite the inclusion of alternative sources, the situation remains tense. The country is under a state of emergency in the energy sector, and the authorities are urging citizens to conserve electricity, especially during peak hours.
