Parliament has denounced the Agreement on Creation of the CIS, the relevant protocol, and the CIS Charter. The draft documents were supported by 60 MPs from the PAS and “Democracy at Home” factions, as well as some MPs from the “Alternativa” bloc. According to the authorities, the denunciation of these agreements was initiated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which argues that the fundamental values and principles of the CIS are not being upheld. In particular, the provision stating that member states recognize and respect the territorial integrity and inviolability of each other’s existing borders. This principle, which formed the basis for the creation of the CIS, is being violated by the Russian Federation, which is waging war against Ukraine, has committed acts of aggression against Georgia and is illegally stationing military forces on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, writes deschide.md. Furthermore, the denunciation of the CIS Agreement is a natural and inevitable step towards achieving the goal of accession to the European Union. To date, Moldova has denounced around 70 agreements with the CIS as part of an ongoing process of aligning national policy with EU standards and norms, as well as modernizing the country’s legislative and economic framework.
