PAS Is Considering Ministers and MPs for the Post of Mayor of Chisinau: City Hall Is a Priority

PAS Vice-Chair Doina Gherman has stated that the party is considering several ministers and MPs as candidates for the post of Mayor of Chisinau in the 2027 elections. She made this announcement during the program Cutia Neagră Plus on TV8. Previously, the names of PAS adviser Zinaida Popa and Infrastructure Minister Vasile Bolea had been discussed. Gherman emphasized that “the Chisinau mayoralty is a priority for the party” and that “very serious and responsible discussions” are taking place. The exact number of candidates under consideration has not been disclosed, but Gherman clarified that they are “political figures of national stature”. As for her own candidacy, Gherman noted that she sees herself as effective in the legislative body and does not currently plan to stand in the mayoral election. In the previous local elections in 2023, PAS candidate Lilian Carp received 28.23% of the vote, losing to the incumbent mayor Ion Ceban, who secured 50.62%.
