Home / Politics / Gagauzian MPs and Primars Are Invited to a Meeting with Maia Sandu
This was announced by PAG MP Vladimir Kyssa during a broadcast on Radio Moldova Comrat.
According to him, the initiative could be the first step towards finding a compromise in the situation surrounding the PAG elections, reports infotag.md.
“There will be a meeting at the President’s office: some MPs have been invited, and I know that the mayoral faction has also been invited. Perhaps this is the first signal from the President – to find a consensus on this issue? We must understand that the elections to the People Assembly of Gagauzia must be held, and most importantly – lawfully. Ultimately, it is the courts that will have the final say, recognizing the mandates,” he believes.
Kyssa is convinced that the only realistic way out of the current situation remains dialogue between Comrat and Chisinau. In his view, the current deadlock is the result of accumulated contradictions between Gagauz and national legislation, which were not resolved in a timely manner.
The MP believes that responsibility lies with both sides: both the central authorities, which adopted changes to the electoral legislation, and Gagauzia, which failed to secure agreement on the regulations in advance.
It is expected that the upcoming meeting could serve as a platform for discussing ways out of the institutional crisis and for harmonizing the legal positions of the central government and the autonomous region.
Recently, Sandu met with Turkish President Recep Erdogan at an international diplomatic forum in Antalya, discussing, among other things, the situation regarding the elections in Gagauzia.
