Primar, Elected Three Times as a Member of the PDM, Became Vice-Chair of the PAS in Calarasi

Vasile Rata stated that joining PAS was a “natural step”. “This is a natural progression of my involvement. Over time, I decided to support a team and a direction that deliver tangible results for the community. Today, I share PAS’ values and actions, including the promotion of a clear European vision for local development and the country’s future. My decision is based on a sense of responsibility towards the people, not on my political past,” Vasile Rata told the Agora portal. The issue attracted public attention following claims that, during his time as a member of the PDM, Rata had criticized PAS. This was stated by the chairman of the National Moldovan Party, Dragos Galbur. However, the social media posts mentioned by Galbur are no longer available. Vasile Rata rejected these accusations. “I would like to clarify that I have never been a critic of PAS or Ms Maia Sandu. This is likely a misinterpretation or a misunderstanding. On the contrary, I appreciate the results achieved in recent years – thanks to these efforts, our community has developed significantly, and many concrete projects for the people have been implemented. The information appearing on certain Telegram channels and elsewhere originates from my local political opponents and is aimed at undermining my image. This has been going on for several years now, but without success,” noted Rata. PAS representatives have not yet provided any comments. Vasile Rata has been a member of PAS since 2023, when he was re-elected mayor.
