Sergiu Cobilas, the head of the Criminal Police Department of the Botanica Police Inspectorate, who is involved in a corruption case, was released from detention and placed under house arrest. Prosecutors say they will appeal the court’s decision, according to rupor.md. “The prosecutor in the case from the Prosecutor’s Office of the Chisinau Municipality does not agree with the decision and will file an appeal with the Center Court of Appeal, demanding the application of a preventive arrest measure,” said Violina Moraru, a representative of the General Prosecutor’s Office. On Tuesday, another defendant was also arrested for 30 days. The remaining four suspects will be detained until Wednesday. According to the investigation, six police officers, including the unit commander, were detained after searches at the Botanica Police Inspectorate in the corruption case, during which prohibited items were found. According to the National Anticorruption Center, the suspects allegedly systematically demanded $3,000 to $10,000 from individuals involved in drug use and trafficking. All the suspects, including the leadership of the inspectorate, have been suspended from their positions pending the investigation.
