The European Union is to provide Chisinau with €100 million to strengthen its air defense. The Republic of Moldova is to receive €100 million from the European Union to strengthen its air defense system. This will be the largest package of European military aid ever provided to the country. Two sources told the Kyiv Independent, as reported by digi24.ro. The funding will be channeled through the European Peace Facility (EPF). The funds are earmarked for the procurement of modern air defense systems and other equipment necessary to protect the country’s airspace. According to the sources, the decision was taken against a backdrop of mounting security threats in the region and regular Russian missile attacks on Ukraine, which have highlighted a shortage of air defense capabilities not only in Kyiv but also in other European countries. In recent years, Moldova has already received several military aid packages from the EU, including equipment, vehicles, communications equipment and radar systems. The new package will be the largest in the history of defense cooperation.
