Perciun: Recean Continues to Take Part in PAS Party Life

PAS Vice President and Education Minister Dan Perciun said Dorin Recean has not withdrawn from party activities since stepping down as prime minister. According to him, the former head of government continues to participate in political activities, while his experience is taken into account during the party’s internal consultations. Perciun made the remarks during a TV8 program, responding to a question about his current relationship with Recean, who has appeared much less frequently in public since leaving the post of prime minister, omniapres.md reports. According to Perciun, the party discussed Recean’s possible continued involvement in political activity, but those discussions did not progress further. “There were discussions with Mr. Recean, there were also moments of change, after which his mandate as prime minister may have come to an end. So, we somehow did not move forward in that direction,” Perciun said. At the same time, the PAS vice president noted that Recean had been actively involved in party activities and election campaigns. “Mr. Recean was very active and very involved, including in party life and election campaigns. We felt his presence, and to a large extent, we continue to feel it,” the minister said. Asked about his personal communication with the former prime minister, Perciun said they do not stay in frequent contact but occasionally meet at various events. “Not very often, but sometimes there are certain events where we have an opportunity to cross paths. Perhaps other colleagues in the party communicate with him more frequently,” he said. Perciun stressed that completing one’s tenure at the head of government does not automatically mean leaving the circle of people with whom the party consults. “The fact that they have completed their mandate at the head of government does not mean that they are no longer part of the team or, at the very least, part of the circle of people with whom we consult and discuss issues, taking into account the experience they have,” the minister said. Dorin Recean served as Moldova’s prime minister from February 2023 to November 2025. He subsequently stepped down as prime minister and relinquished his parliamentary mandate, which he had obtained on the PAS electoral list, saying that he was leaving politics to focus on business. Later, President Maia Sandu appointed him as a special envoy for development and resilience.
