Moldova May Have to Wait More Than Three Years for New €120 Million Air Defense System

Defense Minister Anatolie Nosaiîi said the delivery of the new system could take longer than the planned three-year period. “We are not certain that this modern system will be delivered within the stipulated three-year period. It may happen later,” the minister acknowledged, rupor.md reports. According to him, the purchase involves a new integrated system capable of detecting and destroying aerial targets. It is intended to help Moldova counter threats in its airspace. It has not yet been finally decided which specific system will be purchased or which company will manufacture it. “We still have to hold discussions and clarify exactly which system we are talking about. Once the decision is made, the manufacturer will provide the delivery timeline,” Nosatii explained. On July 13, the Council of the European Union approved €120 million in assistance for Moldova. The funds are being provided through the European Peace Facility specifically for the acquisition of a medium-range air defense system.
