Marian Gets New Leadership Position After Resigning Amid MoldATSA Scandal

PAS MP Radu Marian has been appointed to a new leadership position in Parliament, two months after resigning as chairman of the Committee on Economy, Budget and Finance amid the scandal surrounding MoldATSA. The PAS parliamentary majority backed his candidacy for chairman of the Republic of Moldova’s National Group in the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), despite criticism from the opposition, unimedia.info reports. “In the section concerning the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the candidacy of Radu Marian, from the PAS parliamentary faction, is proposed for the position of chairman of the national group,” Doina Gherman said. The position became vacant after Alexandru Vershinin was recalled at the proposal of Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu. “My proposal at the Permanent Bureau meeting was based on the fact that he is a problematic person and has made homophobic and sexist statements,” Grosu said in response to criticism from Vasile Costiuc, leader of the Democracy at Home party. “We are being governed here like a collective farm. Those who sow the wind reap the whirlwind. Look at the storm that is coming, society is boiling. May God give you your fill of power,” Costiuc said. “Thank you for being unable to sleep without me, for turning me into a national political leader,” Vershinin, in turn, told the PAS majority. “We have heard your curses, thank you for the ‘compliments’, but that is not what this draft resolution is about,” Grosu replied. Following several heated exchanges between opposition and PAS MPs, the draft resolution was approved by 56 lawmakers.
