PSRM leader Igor Dodon said his party is working to find an economic operator to deliver cheap Russian gas to Moldova’s border, hoping to force the authorities to accept the proposal.
Ahead of the heating season, Dodon announced plans to arrange alternative gas supplies from the Russian Federation through a private intermediary, rupor.md reports.
“The upcoming heating season and the expected increase in tariffs require concrete solutions. The only way forward is to find cheaper energy resources. We have already proposed our own option and reached an agreement with Russia. I have seen the authorities’ skepticism and ridicule over this, so I want to emphasize that we are now working to find an economic operator whom we will help navigate all the necessary procedures and arrange the delivery of cheaper Russian gas to the border of the Republic of Moldova. Today, PAS claims this is impossible. We will prove that it is possible. And then I want to see how the authorities will refuse an offer that could secure more favorable gas supply terms for Moldova,” Dodon said.
The statement followed a visit to Moscow in mid-October 2026 by a PSRM delegation led by Dodon. Upon returning, the Socialist leader claimed that Moldova could receive Russian gas at a price of around $300-350 per 1,000 cubic meters. However, no official agreements, confirmed volumes or contracts with PJSC Gazprom were presented.
In Chisinau, the opposition politician’s statements were met with sharp criticism and irony. Representatives of the ruling PAS party and security experts have stressed that trips to Moscow amid the ongoing war in Ukraine serve as a hybrid instrument of pressure on Moldova.
