Britain, China, Russia, the United States and France refused to sign the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. A joint statement of the five countries – permanent members of the UN Security Council was published on the website of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The best way to achieve a world without nuclear weapons is through a gradual process that takes into account the international security environment,
the statement reads.
The countries that have signed the statement also note that the Treaty does not take into account the main problems to be resolved to achieve deep reductions in the global stockpiles of nuclear weapons.
