The presence of Russian troops on the territory of the Republic of Moldova has become the biggest threat to national security. The presence of foreign military, military equipment and ammunition in Moldova aimed at undermining the situation in the field of military security, stated Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission on National Security, Defense and Public Order Eugen Karpov, IPN reports. In the case of the Republic of Moldova, the presence of Russian troops has been a tool to maintain the separatist regime in the Transnistrian region. “If there were no Russian troops, I am convinced that a solution to the Transnistrian conflict would have been found earlier. Today, the Russian Federation, by its open presence, and I mean the military, is an element that gives the internal factors of the Transnistrian region an incentive to prove to the local population that Transnistria is a subject of international law”, said Eugen Karpov. According to him, diplomats must raise the issue of the illegal presence of Russian troops on the territory of the Republic of Moldova in all international forums. Such requests are constantly sent to the OSCE, the UN, NATO, the EU and other international organizations Moldova has relationswith. Eugen Karpov added that at present there is less practical chances of resuming the process of withdrawal of troops than 10-15 years ago. Source: Noi.md
