Prime Minister Pavel Filip talking to U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs George Kent said that the relationship between the Republic of Moldova and the United States is strategic and the support provided by the U.S. is valuable to the country. Pavel Filip spoke about the Government’s efforts to improve the business climate and to stabilize the banking sector, which produced results. The economic growth in the second quarter of this year was 5.2% and the amounts collected into the state budget were by 2 billion lei higher than the projections. Investments of over US$ 140 million were made in the first nine months of this year. Pavel Filip told George Kent that measures have been also taken to fight corruption and to reform the justice sector, in particular to amend the legal framework. These reforms are yet implemented with difficulty. The Premier noted the government will be making effort to ensure a democratic, free and transparent electoral process. “We are a team that has the necessary capacities and will to change things in the Republic of Moldova”, stated Pavel Filip. The U.S. official reaffirmed the United States’ support for Moldova to become a successful, democratic and prosperous country. At the same time, George Kent said the U.S. will assist the official Chisinau in coping with the internal and external challenges, including in preventing the risks of foreign interference in the electoral process.
