President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko accepted the introduction of a common currency into circulation with Russia, provided that this currency is not the Russian ruble. He stated this at a meeting with the current and former heads of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Belta reports.
According to Lukashenko, a common currency with Russia should be created on equal terms. The President of Belarus rejected the possibility of issuing a common Russian-Belarusian currency by the Central Bank of Russia. He offered to do it on the European Union’s principles.
At a meeting with current and former officials, the leader of Belarus also repeated the words about the possibility of creating a closer union between his country and Russia. At the same time, Lukashenko expressed the opinion that this issue should be resolved by residents of both countries. The Belarusian president also believes that the country has the right to be in “any union” with other states.
“There is no point to change our foreign policy”, concluded Alexander Lukashenko.
