Moldovan President Igor Dodon asked U.S. congressmen for the assistance of the United States in the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict and the continuation of negotiations in the 5+2 format. According to him, the U.S. assistance is necessary to find a solution to the Transnistrian problem, on the basis of the territorial integrity of Moldova. During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the relations between Chisinau and Washington, as well as discussed the internal situation in Moldova in the context of the parliamentary elections. In February, it was reported that Moldova is ready to abandon the idea of reunification with Transnistria, if it becomes a stumbling block for the development of cooperation with NATO and accession to the European Union. The RTA previously wrote about the fact that the United States explores the subject of the possible separation of the two banks of the Dniester. It is noteworthy that in 2018, the advisers of the Moldovan President visited Washington for “consultations on the Transnistrian problem”.
