Zelensky thanked the U.S. for Support; Trump Expressed his Gratitude for the invitation to Visit Ukraine

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky expressed the U.S. President Donald Trump gratitude for the invitation to visit Washington, and members of the U.S. Congress – for the development of a bill to strengthen support for Ukraine. “I am grateful to the United States for the consistent support of the territorial integrity of Ukraine”, Zelensky said. The Ukrainian newspaper Zerkalo Nedeli reported about Trump’s invitation to the new President of Ukraine to visit the USA. According to its sources, the U.S. President wants to discuss with Zelensky both the settlement of the conflict in the Donbas and U.S. business projects in Ukraine. The timing of the visit has not yet been determined, it may take place soon after Trump’s and Russian President Vladimir Putin meeting, which may take place in June in Japan. The bill “On providing support to Ukraine to protect its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity” was introduced by representatives of the Democratic and Republican parties. According to the Embassy of Ukraine in the United States, among other things, it provides for the granting Ukraine status of the “main military and political ally” of the United States outside of the NATO framework.  15 countries outside the Alliance possess this status. In addition, the document provides for the transfer and sale of weapons to Ukraine, including anti-tank, anti-ship and anti-aircraft systems. Also, the U.S. will assist Ukraine in countering cyberattacks. From the political point of view the document provides for Russia's non-recognition of the annexation of Crimea, Russia's encouragement to implement the Minsk agreements and assistance to Ukraine in establishing democratic values.
