“There is no Threat of Federalization of Moldova.” Maia Sandu’s words about the solution of the Transnistrian conflict

Prime Minister Maia Sandu in an interview for Ziarul de Gardă assured that there was no risk of federalization of Moldova. She called federalization a bad solution to the Transnistrian conflict, because it may lead to the strengthening of Russia's influence in Moldova. In this situation, according to Maia Sandu, a good solution would be to unite the country by granting autonomy to Transnistria, following the example of Gagauzia. However, this will take time. The Prime Minister also noted that the issue of federalization of the country should not be solved exclusively in the Parliament. The topic of federalization of Moldova was updated after Publika TV, owned by the leader of the Democratic Party Vladimir Plahotniuc, published a video where Plahotniuc and Dodon allegedly discuss the conclusion of a secret agreement involving the federalization of Moldova. According their conversation it follows that earlier this topic was discussed with Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Kozak. The conversation record was published after the socialists, instead of a coalition with the Democratic Party, eventually concluded an agreement with the ACUM bloc on deoligarchization of Moldova. At the same time the Democratic Party claims that the federalization plan was promoted by Dodon, and Plahotniuc allegedly refused it, although no evidence was presented. Dodon said that the federalization plan was proposed to Russia by Plahotniuc in exchange for the closure of criminal cases initiated against him in Moscow, which were also discussed during conversation. This version was confirmed by Dmitry Kozak. The agreement of the Party of Socialists and ACUM bloc does not refer to any federalization.
