Head of the OSCE Mission in Moldova Claus Neukirch, in an interview given exclusively to MOLDPRES, has said that most ammunition from the Cobasna depot (Transnistrian region) would be destroyed on the spot. "The discussions on the ammunitions from Cobasna speak about their destruction on the spot, because most of them are not in a safe state to be carried to Russia. This is old ammunition and we cannot rule out the appearance of dangers, if it is moved,” Neukirch said, moldpres.md reports. According to Claus Neukirch, in 2002-2003, OSCE facilitated the withdrawal of more than 20,000 tons of ammunitions and weaponry from the Cobasna depot. “As much as 20,000 tons of ammunitions have remained. In 2003-2003, OSCE facilitated the bringing of utilities for the destruction on non-transportable ammunitions, utilities which have not been used and were withdrawn. We can now enforce this way for the destruction of the non-transportable ammunitions,” the OSCE official said. In August 2019, Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu in Chisinau informed that Russia would like to initiate the process of Cobasna ammunition disposal. Experts say that this is the biggest military depot in the Eastern Europe. Point
