Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Aureliu Ciocoi said that the Transnistrian problem “can be resolved very quickly and easily” if the Chisinau authorities find a “national consensus”. “The Transnistrian conflict can be resolved very quickly and easily. I do not know if we can still use this term - “conflict”. As you can see, there have not been shooting on the banks of the Dniester since the 1992. A few years ago, an incident occurred when a young man from the Transnistrian region was killed while crossing the bridge over Dniester, but there were no more shooting and casualties. This is a conflict, which, unfortunately, persists in the heads of the so-called leaders of the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova. At the level of ordinary people, there is no conflict. People travel, cross the so-called administrative line between the Transnistrian region and us. The only place where this conflict still exists is in the minds of these leaders, who insist on continuing the conflict. Because if something changes and the country reunites, there will not be any leaders in the Transnistrian region”, the Foreign Minister said in an interview for Unimedia, noi.md reports. Talking about the way of the Transnistrian conflict resolving, Aureliu Ciocoi said that it was necessary to find a “national consensus” on this issue, which would then be presented to external partners. “Here in Chisinau, we need to reach a national consensus, to find the solution to this conflict, that is, the status that we are ready to give the Transnistrian region in reintegrated Moldova. Only when we reach a national consensus and know exactly what we want we may offer our vision to international partners who are part of the 5+2 format. After consultations with international partners regarding this vision, if we find a common denominator based on consensus at the national level, we will easily resolve this problem. The problem in Chisinau is that since we 1992 we cannot reach consensus on how to act, we have no common vision on this issue. Some argue that they propose one model, others, the radicals, believe that we do not need the Transnistrian region and it is necessary to define the boundary on the Dniester. It is obvious that in my current capacity I am firmly convinced that the reintegration of the country should be at the national level and be international task number one for the Republic of Moldova. I am convinced that this conflict makes the economic development of the country impossible”, said Aureliu Ciocoi. Рoint
