Ukraine wants U.S. sanctions against Nord Stream 2 contractors to halt pipeline construction, said Ukrainian deputy prime minister for Europe and Euro-Atlantic integration, Dmytro Kuleba during a visit to Washington. He thanked the committees of the Senate and House of Representatives, who agreed on new sanctions and put them in the draft defense budget for 2020.
“Companies that are laying pipelines for Nord Stream 2 need to stop their work immediately,” said Mr. Kuleba (quoted by RIA Novosti). According to him, sanctions against the gas pipeline will lead to a strategic balance in Europe and energy security.
We remind that Germany is against introducing sanctions on contractors of the Nord Stream 2. German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas called these measures unacceptable. He believes that such actions adversely affect decisions made in Europe. The Association of European Businesses is also against imposing these sanctions.
