President Igor Dodon stated that the Moldovan authorities did not intend to block the Moldovan-Ukrainian border crossing for cars registered on the Dniester’s left bank. In his opinion, no such obstacles from the Tiraspol authorities should be either,
ipn.md reports.
Igor Dodon told reporters he contacted the Tiraspol leader Vadim Krasnoselsky when they announced the decision to stop transit for vehicles with Moldovan plates from January 24. “I explained it is out of question that Moldovan authorities intend blocking. And there is no reason for Tiraspol to do the same thing,” said Igor Dodon. The head of state added that it was decided to discuss this issue at the government level, and that "basically the problem has been eliminated, and the topic has been exhausted."
More than one hundred thousand cars are registered in the Transdniestrian region. Several thousands of them have already received neutral plates, and "the process is actively continuing." And this is “a very good result achieved in the 5 + 2 format,” the president said.
A week ago, the Reintegration Bureau announced that "the testing mode for cars registered on the left bank of the Dniester at the Moldovan-Ukrainian state border crossing has been suspended." According to the Bureau, the data collected by the relevant authorities over the past ten days will be analyzed “in the context of demands for trips to Ukraine and demand for neutral plates from residents of the Transdniestrian region”.
