Issachar Pardoning
As to AP agency notes, it is not yet clear whether Netanyahu’s brief working visit could also be related to new developments in the case of Israeli citizen Naama Issahar, who had earlier filed a petition for clemency with President Vladimir Putin.
On January 27, the Moscow Region Pardon Commission examined the personal petition addressed to the President of Russia from the Israeli woman convicted of drug smuggling case in Russia. After that, a unanimous decision was made to recommend the president to satisfy this appeal.
Israeli woman got detained at Sheremetyevo
The
Israeli woman was stopped in transit zone in April 2019 during her flight from Delhi to Tel Aviv with a transfer in Moscow. In baggage, to which Issahar did not have access during the flight, 9.6 grams of hash were found. Naama Issahar herself did not admit guilt in drug smuggling. In Israel then it was discussed that Russia offered to exchange Issahar for hacker Alexei Burkov. However, he was extradited to the United States, where he made a deal with the investigation.
On January 23, Vladimir Putin met with Naama’s mother, Jaffa Issahar, during his visit to Israel and promised that “everything will be fine” with her daughter. Israeli journalists wrote that on the eve Putin’s visit, on December 30, 2019, Tel Aviv returned to Russia the right for
the Alexander Compound in Jerusalem, and directly connected this with the fate of the Israeli woman.
