Only two formalities remain to be covered before Britain leaves the EU. Britain will leave the European Union on January 31 at 24:00 CET. The day before Brexit, the 27 EU member states confirmed in a writing form the ratification of agreement on the procedure and conditions for Britain to exit the EU, the press service of the Council of the EU said on Thursday, January 30. The procedure for confirming the ratification of this document by the Council was considered as a simple formality. Before Britain left the EU, there were two more formalities left to do - to pass the ratified documents to London and make them public on January 31. After that, the UK will be able to leave the European Union being a member of this organization for almost 50 years. Transition period The night before, the  European Parliament ratified the Brexit agreement  . The central point of this document is the transitional period until the end of 2020. During this time, nothing will change in the practical life of the European Union and Britain: the UK will remain in the customs union and will retain access to the internal EU market. In the field of people and goods movement, nothing will change either. In the next 11 months, it will be necessary to determine the way cooperation in trade, politics and other areas between Brussels and London will be implemented from 2021. The Brexit treaty has already settled the rights of nearly 3.2 million EU citizens in Britain and 1.2 million UK citizens in the EU. They will continue to live and work according to the old rules. The contract also defines the amounts that London must compensate Brussels because of Brexit. The parties also agreed a compromise, according to which the border between British Northern Ireland and EU member Ireland will remain open after the Brexit.
