The Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” (DA) decided to support the candidacy of Grigore Cobzac, independent deputy at the parliamentary by-elections planned for March 15 in Hincesti. According to DA leader Andrei Nastase, this is a thoughtful and informed decision and the DA platform “has done everything possible” to unite the center-right forces. In the Hincesti elections Cobzac will compete with the candidate for the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) Olesea Stamate. Speaking about the support of Grigore Cobzac, DA Platform leader Andrei Nastase recalled that Cobzac was the common ACUM bloc (PAS and DA) candidate during parliamentary elections in this constituency on February 24, 2019. “In the conditions of unfree elections and lawlessness he got the popular support and the second place, gaining more than 33% of the vote,” Nastase said. He added that the DA Platform continues to advocate for the unification of center-right forces, and called on “other truly pro-European and national” parties from the right flank to “take courage and withdraw their candidates” so that Cobzac could win. Recall, on January 24, the PAS member and the ex-MP from the PLDM, Grigore Cobzac, announced his decision to run for parliament in the Hincesti constituency as an independent candidate despite the fact that party officially supported Olesea Stamate’s candidacy. PAS ejected him out of the party afterwards, on January 31. Cobzac said that he decided to run as an independent candidate for deputy in the Hincesti district as a protest against the formation’s leadership decision to nominate Olesea Stamate. PAS leader Maia Sandu stated PAS will not withdraw Stamate’s candidacy. Note that earlier the CEC also registered the candidate from the Democratic Party Ion Mereuță and Ștefan Gațcan from the Socialists Party.
