On March 20, the President of Northern Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovsky signed the final document on Northern Macedonia accession to the Alliance. Thus, the small Balkan state with  population of two million people in the very near future will become the 30th member of the NATO military-political union. The exact date of the formal admission ceremony for NATO members has not yet been announced. The President Pendarovsky document signing was preceded by the Spanish parliament deputies’ agreement ratification, the last of the NATO states, which confirmed the general agreement of 29 allies to accept the new member. The Spanish parliamentarians were forced to vote "remotely" due to the impossibility to hold a session in the context of the coronavirus epidemic. Following the decision of the Spanish Parliament, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg tweeted: “So, allies welcome the 30th member coming soon. Congratulations, Northern Macedonia!”
