The World Bank will be involved in additional financing of ongoing and new projects to support the business environment both in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and in the post-crisis period. Ways to support the business environment in the context of the pandemic crisis within the framework of the World Bank programs were discussed today by the Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Sergiu Railean and Anna Akhalkatsi, the World Bank Country Manager in the Republic of Moldova, agora.md reports. The Minister of Economy emphasized that all the efforts of authorities are currently aimed at supporting enterprises through measures to mitigate the negative impact of the pandemic crisis on their activities, as well as aimed at protecting workers. “The ministry team developed an intersectoral emergency plan. It includes immediate solutions, but we need knowledge about the impact of medium and long-term actions. Therefore, we count on the World Bank’s support in our efforts to assist business in the Republic of Moldova in overcoming the difficulties created by the pandemic crisis, as well as in macroeconomic measures,” Sergiu Railean said. In turn, the World Bank representative assured that the WB group of experts will examine the anti-crisis action plan developed by the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure. Anna Akhalkatsi also noted that the bank’s board recently approved $ 150 billion in resource mobilization over the next 15 months to help developing countries alleviate the impact on the global economy caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
