Quarantine measures will be softened up in England, from May 13. In particular, outdoor sports and trips within England will be allowed. This does not apply to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that the in force restrictive measures in the country will remain in effect until at least June 1 with a few exceptions. "Now is not the time to
cancel the lockdown this week," he said in a televised address on Sunday evening, May 10, pointing to "tragic" death data.
A slight weakening of quarantine in England
At the same time, according to him, the SARS-CoV-2
coronavirus spread slowed down and therefore the government decided to slightly ease restrictions in England from May 13. "From this Wednesday, we will allow people to engage in an unlimited number of times in outdoor sports. You can sunbathe in the sun, go by car to other places," the prime minister said. Trips are permitted inside England, for example, to national parks or on the coast. At the same time, the ban on meeting people who do not live together continues to be in force.
In addition, employees who cannot perform their duties remotely can return to workplaces. In this case, the rules of the distance must be observed. Now authorities are urging people not to stay home but to be vigilant, Johnson went on to say. These exemptions are valid only for England but not for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
At the next stage of lifting restrictions from the beginning of June, shops and schools may be opened, Johnson said. Since July, he did not rule out the resumption of restaurants, hotels and other public places. Moreover, in case t of a new deterioration in the epidemiological situation, all exemptions will be canceled, the British prime minister further warned.
Epidemiological Threat Scale
At the same time, Johnson introduced a new hazard warning system, with which the future epidemiological situation in the UK will be assessed. The new warning scale has five levels, depending on the magnitude of the infection rate, he said. According to Johnson, Great Britain is currently on the fourth level and moving to the third thanks to quarantine measures. He will present further details of the plan on May 11, in parliament.
Earlier, the Minister of Housing, Regions and Local Government of Great Britain, Robert Jenrick, announced it is planning to introduce a warning system aimed at assessing the level of
threat caused by coronavirus spread. Its purpose is to inform the population and local authorities about the epidemiological situation, which will be evaluated on a five-point scale - simultaneously for the country as a whole and for each locality separately.
