After controversial parliamentary elections political crisis still continues in country. Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov said Friday that as soon as a new cabinet is appointed, he is ready to step down to end the power vacuum in the unrestrained country. While Jeenbekov's proposal could facilitate the transfer of power at a later stage, there is no guarantee that it will break the political impasse that has led the Kremlin to describe the situation in Kyrgyzstan as "chaos." After the cabinet was forced to resign and the election commission annulled the results of Sunday's parliamentary elections, opposition groups are trying to negotiate on who will head the interim government. The outgoing parliament has not yet met or appointed a single candidate for the post of interim prime minister. Some MPs say they fear for their safety. Two political parties close to Jeenbekov won parliamentary elections, but at least 11 other parties refused to recognize the results while Western observers said large-scale rigging took place in the elections. Earlier, Jeenbekov held the first telephone conversations with the newly appointed speaker of parliament, Myktybek Abdyldaev, in an attempt to end the political crisis in the country. According to the presidential press secretary, they talked about how to return the country to the "legal field".
