On March 30, ex-Premier Ion Chicu announced the creation of an initiative group that will form and register a new party - "Development and Unity of Moldova" (Partidului Dezvoltării Consi Consolidarii Moldovei). According to Chicu, the party will also include several former state officials, including ex-Minister of Health Viorica Dumbraveanu and former Minister of Economy Anatol Usatii.
“The main goal of the PDUM political party is to develop and modernize our country through consolidating and unifying our society on the way of Moldova’s integration into the European Union,” Chicu wrote on his Facebook page.
The former prime minister also noted that he is a supporter of "strict order" and the rule of law. “In a country with a functioning democracy, there is no place for corruption, there is no place for human rights violations, political and administrative arbitrariness,” he said and added that in Moldova it is also necessary to increase pensions and salaries, improve infrastructure, reorganize government and the educational system.
Chicu also said that, in addition to Dumbraveanu and Usatii, his party will include Deputy Director of the Institute of Mothers and Children Vasile Tomuz, Secretary General of the Government Liliana Iaconi, Mayor of Hincesti Alexandru Botnari, Secretary General of the Ministry of Education Ivan Gheorghiu and many others.
